Dear students,
I am deeply saddened by the current events, aggression, and violence which are directly or indirectly affecting some of you. Charles University aims to secure and uphold not only ideal conditions for teaching, studying, and research but also to ensure a safe, peaceful, and respectful environment for communication. For these reasons, the entire leadership of Charles University strongly opposes all expressions of hatred, threats of violence, and ethnic and national delineation.

The Neuron Foundation this year recognised numerous top scientists incl. experts from Charles University. The award for a lifelong contribution to science went to Czech internationally-known chemist František Švec from the Faculty of Pharmacy. CU also clinched awards for promising scientists.

Czech trilobites are in Nature! Palaeontologists from The Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, and their colleagues describe a 465-million-year-old trilobite with preserved gut contents. This unique fossil, three-dimensionally preserved in a so-called Rokycany ball, was found more than a hundred years ago. But it has revealed its secrets only now.

The event was part of a series of debates on how to transform the Widening Programme as European and national policy makers shape the next EU Framework Programme for research and innovation.

According to the latest edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, Charles University is among the top 500 universities worldwide. Compared to the previous two years (where it ranked among the top 600), the school has moved up into the top 500. CU remains the highest-ranked university in the Czech Republic.

Charles University has placed 86th in the new international comparison of European universities, QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024, Together with the University of Warsaw, it is the only university from the former Eastern European bloc to be among the top 100 universities in Europe.
