ICHEP 2020, the biggest specialized conference on particle physics

ICHEP 2020, the biggest specialized conference on particle physics, will this year take place only on-line. However, please note that there will be an extra-ordinary program for the general public on the borderline between physics, philosophy and art, which will be accessible for absolutely everybody.

Conferences in the ICHEP series traditionally offer a broad-ranging accompanying program for the public. The organizers have decided keep this tradition going again this year, although the conference has been transferred in its entirety to an internet environment. For the first time ever, the day for the general public will be fully digital. Absolutely anyone, with no restriction on numbers of participants, can join in a single experiment that will not just be entertaining and will perhaps inspire some further thinking, but will at the same time test the technological capability of the present-day internet. We will join together to test what the internet can withstand!

13 October 2020 – 14 October 2020

Conference „Academic ethics and plagiarism prevention“

Universalization of university education together with development of technological possibilities brings in the field of academic writing and academic ethics new obstacles, challenges and opportunities. Rising volume of internet resources, including still more often also contents of academic character, meaningly broadens opportunities for noncorrect exploitation of someone else´s texts. Concurrent advance on the field of storage, search and machine comparison of huge amount of texts online enabled development of efficient tools for plagiarism detection.

Emphasis on plagiarism detection in already finished works although contributes to strengthen general awareness of problematics of academic ethics, but it on its own is not able to influence significantly students´ behaviour. Measures of repressive character therefore needs to be complemented with preventive mechanisms supporting mastering of principles of academic writing and academic integrity.

Conference topically follows up 21st annual conference Quality Assessment in Higher Education https://www.hkvs.muni.cz, which was cancelled relating to government resolution n. 194/ on declaration of state of emergency.

Language and Culture as a guarantee of a multipolar and more tolerant future

Africa and Latin America are bound to always be crosscutting priorities for Portugal in the external agenda of all the European Union Presidencies, and this time is no exception. The relationship between the EU and Africa as well as the one with Latin America are of central importance. We need to maintain a strategic dialogue to address global challenges, be they peace and security, energy transition, trade, population flows or health crises. http://www.2021portugal.eu

Portugal is particularly well place to have a key role in all those issues for many very well-known reasons (History, geography, etc.). Amongst those many reasons, Language and Culture represent strategic, political, diplomatic, and economic dimensions that are often side-lined. The PPEU is a golden opportunity to bring them to where they belong: the forefront of the international debate.
