CU improved its position in the Shanghai Ranking by 73 places

            Charles University made another important achievement in the international comparison. In 

            results of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, or the Shanghai Ranking), the
            just narrowly missed the 200th mark, for the first time ever. Compared to the last year, t
            position has improved by 73 places. The Shanghai Ranking is considered, together with the 

            University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the most prestig
            influential international comparison of universities and colleges.


            In the current ARWU, Charles University came 213th together with Universität zu Köln, Deak
            Sichuan University and University of Kansas. In the last 13 years, the university always f

            area between the 250th and 300th place; yet it was always the best among the Czech univers
            ranking. The current improvement is largely due to the fact that Charles University resear
            finally included in the list of the world’s most quoted academics.

            The Shanghai Ranking focuses on the research and creative activities of universities, base
            indicators: number of graduates or employees awarded by a Nobel Prize or Fields Medal, num
            staff members and researchers among the most quoted researchers in the world, number of pa

            prestigious magazines Nature and Science, number of papers in the international bibliograp
            database Web of Science, and the weighted score of the first five indicators divided by th
            academic staff.
