Evaluation of DP

Under the Higher Education Act, public higher education institutions are, within the scope of their self-governance, obliged to carry out internal evaluation of the quality of education, research and related activities that they organise. The evaluation of degree programmes (DP) is a vital part of this internal evaluation system as it ensures the maintenance of a high standard of education at CU. The degree programme evaluation process is based on three pillars:

Dialogue

The evaluation process takes the form of a dialogue between the guarantor of the degree programme and other representatives of the faculty, on the one hand, and the Internal Evaluation Board (IEB) on the other. This dialogue is conducted through, inter alia, a Self-Evaluation Report prepared by the guarantor, and a Report on the Evaluation of the Degree programme, which is ultimately prepared by the IEB. The goal of the dialogue is to jointly evaluate the progress of the realisation of a previously accredited degree programme.

Awareness and formative feedback

The evaluation dialogue should be based on data that provide information about the functioning of the degree programme. Where possible, the Self-Evaluation Report must therefore, to a certain extent, take the form of comments on the data-based materials consisting of, on the one hand, information retrieved from the University's information systems and, on the other, student opinions gathered from annual pan-university surveys.

Continuity and long-term care

The evaluation process is not intended to be a one-off act, or even an end in itself, but merely one component of the long-term care for the quality of the degree programme – one that is continuous and incorporates a number of other elements, be they at faculty or pan-university level. The goal of the evaluation, carried out through the dialogue between the Internal Evaluation Board and the guarantor of the degree programme and any other representatives is to verify that the standard of realisation of the degree programme corresponds to the requirements of Charles University and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the degree programme, and to formulate recommendations for its further development and improvement.
