MEXT is a Japanese government scholarship that students can apply for through either the embassy or their home university.

The scholarship is typically announced by the International Relations Office of Charles University (OZV RUK) in December or January and is intended for one-year stays at selected partner universities, beginning in October of the following academic year. The exact deadlines depend on the type and format of the study program.

Based on the faculty's recommendation and submitted documentation, students are nominated to the partner university, which reviews the applications, forwards them to the Ministry for final approval, and subsequently informs the student directly of the outcome.

Only one student from Charles University can be awarded the scholarship at a specific partner university. The scholarship includes travel expenses and monthly financial support of 117,000 JPY. If there are multiple candidates, the selection is made through a faculty or university-level selection process.
