The Rector of Charles University hereby expresses his deepest sadness on tragic events on the night of November 13, 2015, in Paris, sympathy for the victims of the attacks, and condolences to their relatives. The Rector also condemns, with utmost emphasis, the terrorist attacks, their initiators, and those who are associated with them in any way, and believes they will be apprehended and sentenced shortly.
The strength of the democratic society, of which we are a part, does not only involve the commitment to freedom, democracy and the relevant principles – respect for human rights, rule of law, and humanity, so obvious to us. It also involves the ability to fight terrorism efficiently, and deal with all risks and threats that may endanger the very existence of democracy.
