Expertise: | Study of polarons in real space using combined scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). |
Job Offer Code: | 202508-PD-MFF-KFPP-079 |
Polarons [1] are quasiparticles that form in semiconductors due to the coupling of excess electrons with lattice vibrations. This leads to spatial confinement of the charge carrier, and in turn affects many macroscopic physical and chemical properties of the material. The scope of the project is to study polarons in real space using combined scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The main focus is to track a single polaron in real space, understand its mechanisms of migration, coupling to defects and other polarons, as well as interaction with species adsorbed at the surface. Qualification and Other Requirements: | The ideal candidate must have experience with topics relevant to the project, i.e., at least basic experience with scanning probe techniques (SPM) and the environment of ultrahigh vacuum. An advantage is previous experience with cryogenic temperatures, high magnetic fields or optical methods combined with SPM. PhD degree in physics is required, in fields such as surface science, materials research or solid state physics.

Upload the application and the required documents in digital form via the website provided below. If any recommendation letters are required, the applicant is responsible to ensure that they are properly delivered. The website allows to send requests for recommendation letters which are then uploaded by their authors.
In justified cases, e.g., if the applicant completes his doctoral studies in the period between the submission of the application and the date of starting the employment relationship, the applicant must provide proof of the completed doctoral studies before signing the employment contract.
Candidates who progress to the second round of the selection procedure will be invited for an interview. The interview may be conducted by means of information and communication technology if justified, at the request of the candidate. The Committee may invite selected candidates to give a lecture to the academic community of the Faculty. Apply here | |
