Prague, 21 February 2014 – It is with great regret that Charles University follows the current events in Ukraine. We are outraged to hear of the use of violence, which has resulted in dozens of fatalities and hundreds of injured. The practices used are entirely incompatible with the basic values of European civilization. We therefore make an appeal for a political solution to the current crisis.

We strongly condemn the methods employed, which are in flagrant breach of basic, universal ideals and values. We offer Ukrainian students, exposed to violence the possibility of completing their studies at Charles University through the University’s Václav Havel Grant, announced in January.
