Charles University successfully defends prestigious HR Excellence in Research Award

Charles University is proud to announce that it has – as the first university in the Czech Republic – successfully defended the prestigious HR Excellence in Research Award (HR Award), granted by the European Commission. This recognition confirms the university’s long-term commitment to creating a supportive, transparent, and modern environment for researchers at all stages of their careers. “You should be proud of everything you have done, you showed a lot of progress,” said the assessors when opening the assessment outcome presentation.

The HR Excellence in Research Award is granted to research institutions that align their HR policies with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. It focuses on open and transparent recruitment processes, good working conditions, and systematic support for career development and continuing education. Currently, the award is held by over 750 universities and research organizations, including 61 in the Czech Republic. Charles University received the certificate in 2019.

“I am immensely pleased that the efforts of many colleagues who are dedicated to supporting both local and international staff have paid off and materialized in the successful renewal of the certificate. The confirmation that Charles University is heading in the right direction in terms of staff care shows that we must not lose momentum. We need to continue fostering fairness, transparency, and predictability in all aspects of human resource management,” said Rector Milena Králíčková regarding the successful defense of the award.

The HR Award is not only a mark of quality in human resources, but also a testament to our ongoing commitment to improving the research environment. In recent years, Charles University has introduced a wide range of measures in areas such as recruitment, ethics, project support, open science, career development, and working conditions. Successfully defending the award confirms the university’s ambition to become a globally competitive institution that attracts top talent. This achievement motivates us to keep moving forward.
