History and History of Arts

Specialists from the Department of Church and Literary History focus their studies on three main fields. The first is medieval hagiography, the cult of saints and the life of Christians and Jews in the Late Middle Ages. Secondly, there is Czech Baroque literature and, lastly, church politics in the first half of the 20th century.

Research from the Institute of History of the Christians Arts deals chiefly with high medieval art in Bohemia and Moravia in the time of the Luxembourger Dynasty (i.e. architecture, painting, sculpture) as well as with the reception of Italian and German Renaissance and baroque art in Czech lands.
