Research funding and education policies in the USA are facing growing political pressures, undermining the integrity of academic research. In light of the nearly threefold increase in inquiries coming from the United States since November 2024, Charles University stands ready to offer a second home for students and scholars dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge without borders.
As one of the oldest universities in Europe, we draw on almost seven centuries of academic freedom, ethical research, and international collaboration. During that time, we have learned how fragile these core principles are while also realising the importance of sharing them with others.
Our academic community now benefits from the exceptional safety and political stability of the local environment. Furthermore, as US citizens have free access to the Czech labour market, Charles University offers a great opportunity to US students and academics, including:
· CHARLESTON Program: supports postdoctoral researchers emphasizing sustainable development and societal impact, with a commitment to fostering global collaboration.
· Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Post-doctoral Fellowship: supports early career researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad while acquiring new skills.
· PRIMUS Research Program: supports top academics in establishing new research groups and laboratories with the aim to apply for ERC grants by the end of their Primus project.
· JUNIOR Fund program: created to attract and support prospective international post-doc researchers who can contribute to Charles University’s strong research profile.
We encourage any academics interested in these programmes or other research opportunities at Charles University to reach out to Jitka Černá from the International Relations Office at jitka.cerna@ruk.cuni.cz
