Vice-Rector Věra Jourová awarded the Order of the Romanian Star

On 27 May 2025, Her Excellency Antoaneta Barta, Ambassador of Romania to the Czech Republic, presented the country’s highest civilian honour – the Order of the Star of Romania (Ordinul Național „Steaua României”) – to Věra Jourová, Vice-Rector for Human Resources Development and New Technologies at Charles University.

This prestigious distinction is awarded for exceptional service in public life, diplomacy, and international cooperation.

In the case of Věra Jourová, the award recognises her longstanding support for Romania at the European level, as well as her consistent advocacy for the country’s accession to the Schengen Area.

“It is a great honour for me. I see this award as a positive reflection of my work in the European Commission. I tried to assist all countries within my remit, including Romania, especially in the areas of rule of law, media freedom, and human rights. But I also have a personal connection with Romania – many friendships, and several years of working for this remarkable country. Thank you, President Iohannis. I deeply appreciate this recognition,” Vice-Rector Jourová (who also heads CU's Public Relations Dept) said. The award ceremony took place at the Romanian Embassy in Prague, attended by members of the diplomatic corps and the academic community.
