Statement of the Czech Rectors Conference on the President’s actions regarding the professorial appointment
In the current situation, when President Miloš Zeman refused to sign the appointing certificates for three professors of Czech public universities, though they successfully passed the legal procedures at their respective schools, the Presidium of the Czech Rectors Conference addresses the entire academia of the Czech Republic with the request for sympathetic approach. The Presidium recommends to the plenum of the of the Czech Rectors Conference to withdraw the participation of rectors and invited appointed professors at the ceremony that is about to take place on Thursday in the traditional premises of Karolinum.
The Presidium of the Czech Rectors Conference is confident that the rectors of the universities will find suitable and respectable opportunities to give the professors the certificates in due time.
Without further ado, discussion will start throughout the Czech Rectors Conference on further actions and coordinated steps in this regrettable matter of repeated and deliberate interventions to the academic freedom of Czech universities.
