RANKINGS BY SUBJECT SURVEY PLACE CHARLES UNIVERSITY AMONG THE WORLD'S BEST UNIVERSITIES

Prague, 26 October 2023 - Charles University has been recognised as one of the world's premier institutions across all the disciplines it consistently offers in education and research, per the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 by Subject released Thursday. Notably, Charles University excelled in the fields of arts & humanities, law, and business & economics, exhibiting year-on-year improvement in six subject areas.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject, a segment within the Times Higher Education ranking family, evaluates universities' performance in a total of eleven subjects.

Just as in the case of the overall institutional comparison, which recently positioned Charles University within the top five hundred universities globally, the subject-based assessment evaluates their performance based on eighteen indicators, grouped into five distinct pillars: education and teaching, research environment, research quality, collaboration with industry, technology transfer, and internationalisation. The weight assigned to each pillar varies from one discipline to another, with specific consideration given to the significance of education and research.

Except for engineering, which is not consistently offered, Charles University has earned recognition as one of the finest institutions in the remaining ten disciplines. Notably, Charles University achieved its best results in the arts and humanities (151-175th place), and in law (176-200th place), thereby securing a place among the top 200 institutions. Furthermore, it also ranks among the top 200 in business & economics (201-250th place), and occupies positions within the 301-400 range in clinical & health sciences, natural sciences, and life sciences. Additionally, Charles University secures its position among the top five hundred universities in computer science, social sciences, education, and psychology. The published results underline the fact that Charles University managed to enhance its standing in six fields over the course of the past year.
