Professor Cyril Höschl, a prominent Czech psychiatrist, science populariser, university educator, and emeritus dean of the Third Faculty of Medicine at Charles University, has received the Neuron Prize 2024 for his lifetime contribution to psychiatry and mental health. The Neuron Foundation Council awarded him this prestigious prize on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, observed on 10 October.
“Professor Cyril Höschl has tirelessly worked to improve the standards of both Czech and global psychiatry throughout his life. He has inspired students to study this field and has also reached out to the general public. He has helped us understand the importance of psychiatry and advocated for a more compassionate view of psychiatric patients in society. We are thrilled to honour his ‘work’ with the Neuron Prize,” stated Monika Vondráková, co-founder and director of the Neuron Foundation, at the award presentation.
She added: “We are awarding this prize on World Mental Health Day (10 October 2024), a day dedicated to education and awareness in this field, as well as a day for combating the social stigma surrounding mental illness. Professor Cyril Höschl embodies this mission not only in the Czech Republic but also worldwide. We felt it fitting to celebrate this day with the Neuron Prize.”
The Neuron Foundation annually recognises outstanding Czech scientists and scholars, significant figures, and young researchers with international impact through the prestigious Neuron Prize, which is awarded in a total of seven categories.
