It’s not every day that one can meet so many distinguished guests – diplomats – in on place but that is exactly what happened at CU at the start of this week. On Monday, 13 January 2025, Rector Milena Králíčková hosted some 60 foreign representatives, stationed in the Czech Republic at the historic Carolinum in Prague, to jointly ring in the New Year.

Rector Králíčková welcomed them to the Hall of Patriots for an informal and friendly meeting, where she shared highlights of Charles University’s achievements in 2024, including prestigious ERC grants awarded to the university’s leading researchers. She also spoke about the university’s strong focus on international cooperation, including its role in the 4EU+ Alliance and the opportunities provided to students through the Erasmus programme and a vast network of global partnerships.

“Charles University has a proud tradition of excellence in education, research, and science, with a reputation that reaches far beyond the Czech Republic. I’d like to thank you for the support and cooperation we continue to receive internationally,” Rector Králíčková said, adding that she wished all those present a successful and fulfilling 2025.

On behalf of the guests, His Excellency Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, Apostolic Nuncio to the Czech Republic, delivered his own remarks, praising Charles University for its legacy of academic leadership and its enduring influence in the world of higher education.

The early evening event concluded with an organ concert, bringing the event to a memorable close.
