Professional profile:

Started his academic journey at the Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc (MSc in 2001), continued at the Technical University of Ostrava (PhD in 2004) until he landed at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University (Associate Professor, Professor). He has further long-term experience from universities in Germany (Konstanz, Passau) and Chile. In 2006, he founded the SIRET research group at the Department of Software Engineering of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, which researches in the area of similarity search in databases of unstructured data (e.g. multimedia). He headed the department from 2013 to 2021. He has served on scientific boards or panels of the Czech Grant Agency. He has led a number of basic, applied and contracted research grants.

2011 - research fellowship at Universidad de Chile (Chile)

Over 100 publications in the Scopus database, articles in international impacted journals and conference proceedings. Google Scholar h-index 25, over 1900 citations.


Popularization activities:

➤ VideoHunter@MFF summer workshops combining scientific and popularization lectures in the field of intelligent search in audio-visual data and a team competition in video search using state-of-the-art tools developed at MFF UK.
