Lecturer: Mgr. Lucie Hošková – Open Science Support Centre

A half-day session aiming to introduce the basics of the R scripting language. This open-source language is a simple yet efficient tool capable of performing high-level statistical analysis, data visualization, data mining, and overall data analysis.
The course is designed for both absolute beginners and false beginners who lack the knowledge of the basic workings of R that are needed to work effectively with R at higher levels.
At the end of this session you will be able to use the basics of R through R Studio, load your data, check it, edit it, and perform indexing on it, so that after a short self-study you will be able to perform effective data analysis, including creating graphs, tables, and statistical outputs.
No previous knowledge of programming or working with R is required.

This course will introduce the basic principles of open science practices and will further focus on open access publishing and opening the publication process. The attendees will learn about different strategies how to provide open access to their publications and how to make their work reusable. The module will also cover the basics of copyright and licensing with a particular focus on Creative Commons licenses. Finally, the course will introduce other ways of opening the publication process such as preprints, preregistrations or open peer review.

A practical workshop focused on fast and effective project planning using the Lean Canvas method. Together we will explain how the Lean Canvas works, go through the individual parts and try out its use on your specific examples. You will learn how to clearly define the key aspects of your project, identify risks and prepare the idea for the first steps towards implementation.

In international environments such as scientific research, different cultures meet with their own social codes, customs and values. As much as this can be enriching, it can also be a challenge.
This workshop aims to enhance the participants’ communication skills to foster effective collaboration with their peers, especially in a multicultural environment. Participants will learn about ways to communicate that are more inclusive, resolve conflicts and avoid escalation, gain insights into which roles they tend to play within teams, all based on current knowledge in psychology, emotional awareness and communication.
The workshop will employ experiential techniques, emphasizing peer communication to provide a practical and engaging learning experience for postdocs seeking to excel in international research environments.
Venue: D2 Kampus Hybernská
Lecturer: Ing. Bc. Pavla Hubálková, Ph.D.

How do you best communicate your research? Science communication has many forms and options; just choose the one you enjoy the most. However, the world of science and the media differ in many ways.It is good to know what (not) to do, how to prepare for an interview, and how to communicate effectively with various audiences.
Please prepare questions on what do you want to focus during the workshop.

The attendees will learn how to manage their research data in accordance with the FAIR principles and how to develop a data management plan. The course will further introduce how to make research outputs reusable and how to responsibly share research data in line with the principle “as open as possible, as closed as necessary.

Many research programmes and activities call for interdisciplinary research for solving complex problems. This interdisciplinary research can take many forms depending on how methods and disciplines are combined, for what purpose, and how that mixing occurs. Different types of interdisciplinarity pose challenges to researchers, around how they cross paradigms and different understandings of core concepts, and navigate research team dynamics. In this workshop, we start with the building blocks of research design (e.g. concepts, data collection methods, data analysis methods, case studies, etc.) and explore approaches to put together these building blocks in different research designs. We consider how approaches match research aims, and create challenges and opportunities for knowledge integration. We also learn from practice, and reflect on the risks and difficulties of doing interdisciplinarity, including those relating to collaboration and team management.Programme description:
By the end of this workshop, postdocs will be able to
Recognise and identify core building blocks of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.
Design interdisciplinary research that mixes methods and disciplines, from simple to complex projects.
Identify and manage common challenges in interdisciplinary research in practice.
Workshop approach
This workshop includes a range of teaching approaches, and relies on the participants being engaged and participating in discussions. Lecturing is used only to create core understandings of key definitions being used. We will spend more time creating research designs (we will even physically build them with Lego), sharing ideas, and participating in structured discussions and participatory exercises.

Following up on the previous workshop on interpersonal communication, this session will focus on strategies, techniques and tools in a leadership role.
Participants will learn about managing up and managing down, running meetings, giving and receiving feedback, or goal setting and review when working with supervisors, students and other team members.
The program will provide practical insights into working with people, enhancing participants' abilities to lead and inspire in the context of graduate and postgraduate research projects.
