What is the best career path to pursue after completing my PhD? This and other questions were addressed in a workshop led by Mgr. Kateřina Cidlinská, Ph.D., held at the Hybernská Campus on Monday, December 2. The workshop was organized by the Postdoctoral Hub of Charles University. Participants learned about career opportunities both within and outside academia while using an interactive format to explore their priorities and professional plans.
The first part of the workshop focused on career options in the public and private sectors, specificities of the job market, the advantages of holding a doctoral degree, and "case studies" of postdoctoral researchers working outside academia.
The introductory presentation was followed by an interactive part where participants worked on their career visions. Using a questionnaire, they first set their goals and explored how they envisioned their future profession in terms of job title, work agenda, or location. In group discussions, they had the chance to inspire each other—sharing their visions, giving feedback and, together with the instructor, focusing on their plans for the next 12 months.
The seminar attracted a diverse group of participants, with women scientists making up the majority. This underlines the importance of career support tools that not only help to better navigate the job market, but also promote equal opportunities in academic and scientific fields.
The workshop by Mgr. Kateřina Cidlinská, Ph.D., is part of a series of seminars prepared by Charles University for early-career researchers. Additional courses and workshops, including Various Career Pathways in Research, will take place in the spring of 2025.
