Charles University is the only applicant from the Czech Republic to receive CZK 60 million for its Charleston project under the EU's flagship programme for doctoral and post-doctoral education. The aim to support young scientists who have already obtained their PhD and have previous international experience, whose research will focus on crucial sustainability issues.

The Mathematics for Czechia Endowment Fund and Charles University have jointly declared that they recognise alarming facts involving the decline of mathematics teachers in the Czech Republic and see the need to urgently begin to address this problem. That is why this week the institutions signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in which they are committing to address the problem without delay.

Cardinal Kurt Koch received a diploma confirming the award of the honorary degree of Doctor honoris causa of theological sciences at the Carolinum. The ceremony, overseen by the rector of the Charles University Milena Králíčková, took place in the Great Hall on Wednesday 8 January.

A year has passed since the tragic events at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University on 21 December. On Saturday, the academic community honoured the memory of the 14 victims with several events. At the same time, people came to light candles, lay flowers and pay tribute to the lives lost in front of the faculty building on Jana Palach Square throughout the day.
