In Memoriam: Professor K. R. Rajagopal

The academic community at Charles University and beyond is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor K. R. Rajagopal, who died on March 20, 2025.At Charles University, Professor Rajagopal mentored many students and collaborated with several senior researchers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. He received an honorary doctorate from the university in 2012.

Vice-Rector awarded the French Order of Merit

On March 6, 2025, the ambassador of France to the Czech Republic, His Excellency Stéphane Crouzat, presented the prestigious French Order of Merit (Ordre national du Mérite) to Professor Eva Voldřichová Beránková, vice-rector for international affairs at Charles University.

Renowned chemist and biologist receive CU honorary degrees

Charles University has awarded honorary doctorates honoris causa to two distinguished international experts: professor of physical chemistry Michael Grätzel at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, and professor of molecular biology Kari Jussi Hemminki, who is currently conducting research at the Biomedical Centre of the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen at CU.

Amendment to the Higher Education Act will reform doctoral studies

The Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic has approved an amendment to the Higher Education Act, which brings significant changes to doctoral studies and transforms the National Accreditation Office. Both Charles University and the Czech Rectors' Conference had a significant role in the preparation of the amendment.

CU and Academy of Sciences continue doctoral student support

Charles University and the Czech Academy of Sciences are expanding their partnership. According to an addendum to the cooperation agreement signed by the rector of Charles University, Milena Králíčková, and the president of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Eva Zažímalová, the two institutions will jointly implement the amendment to the Act on Higher Education in support for doctoral students.
