In the autumn of 2022, Charles University became a signatory to the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment and joined the implementation coalition CoARA, thereby joining an international movement aiming to reform evaluation in the research environment.
The main principles we have committed to uphold include transitioning to an assessment primarily based on qualitative evaluation, abandoning the inappropriate use of metrics, and recognizing the diversity of research and creative activities, including their societal impact. These principles underpin a new five-year evaluation cycle, which is organized centrally by the Rectorate. It focuses on the quality of individual research fields across the university with evaluations conducted by external experts from abroad. The current evaluation covers the period 2019–2023, and its results will be known by the end of 2025.
