Arriving to the Czech Republic

When arranging your travel to the Czech Republic, please bear in mind that three of Charles University faculties are located outside of Prague: the Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové and the Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň (Pilsen).

When searching for a connection from Prague to Pilsen/Hradec Králové, you can use this link.

We provide you with a map of CU faculties to help you feel more confident as you navigate the city.

The map is availabe here.

Please note that the accessibility of metro stations may change, as many are gradually being renovated; for the most up‑to‑date information, always refer to the official public transport provider here.

You can also find information about the accessibility of Charles University buildings on the Carolina Centre website.

Your registration will be arranged during the Orientation Programme (1-5 days depending on the host faculty) or other meetings with the Faculty coordinator(s). During the Orientation Programme, you will get further important information about your Erasmus study process.

For more details, please read all of the relevant information on the Charles University website for Erasmus incoming students and informative emails which you will regularly receive from the European Office as well as your host faculty coordinator.

Charles University Student Cards

In order to get access to the Charles university facilities, you will need a Charles University Student Card, which can be issued to you in one of our Card Service Centres. The Student Card enables you to get a public transport discount as well as to use university libraries, dining halls, study rooms, computer rooms, internet, etc.

There are two main types of the student card:

1. CU Student card (free of charge)

2. Student card with an ISIC licence (for an extra charge) that enables you to get discounts in theatres, cinemas, bookshops, sport centres, and some restaurants.

Details related to the cards can be found here. The discounts covered by the ISIC card can be researched here.

Rules for Student Discounts on Prague Public Transport (PID)

As of January 1, 2026, the Prague Public Transport Authority (PID) has changed the rules for applying student discounts. Please note that it is no longer possible to use a regular CU student card as proof of eligibility for the discount. To help you navigate the new process, we have prepared a step-by-step guide on how to successfully obtain your student discount.

Please refer to the manual for detailed instructions.
