Praha 19. září 2024 – České finále mezinárodní vědecké popularizační soutěže FameLab, která formou stand-up výstupů přibližuje vědu veřejnosti stanovila letošní vítěze. V Míčovně Pražského hradu se představilo devět finalistů, kteří ve třech minutách nechali publikum nahlédnout do fascinujícího světa přírodních věd. Vítěz bude Českou republiku reprezentovat na mezinárodním on-line finále soutěže v listopadu 2024.
Od roku 2022 je nositelem licence pro pořádání soutěže v České republice Univerzita Karlova, nicméně soutěž je otevřena všem studujícím nebo pracujícím ve vědeckých oborech v ČR. Finálové klání letos poskytne zajímavý „souboj“ klasických exaktních vědních témat jako jsou biologie a genetika, neuroplasticita, fyzika a astronomie, chemie nebo třeba medicína. Do národního finále postoupili mladí vědci a vědkyně z Univerzity Karlovy, Akademie věd, Masarykovy univerzity, Univerzity Palackého v Olomouci a Vysoké školy chemicko-technologické.
Porota složená ze známých odborníků a popularizátorů vědních disciplín jako je Jiří Martínek alias Dr. Vševěd, historik a geograf, „lovec“ z pořadu „Na lovu“ TV NOVA, Barbora East, lékařka – chirurgyně, Michael Londesborough, chemik, moderátor a popularizátor vědy, vybrala tyto vítěze:
1. místo: LUBOŠ BRABEC – vědecké centrum CEITEC MU
za vystoupení Mozek, džungle a cesty mezi neurony
2. místo: ANNA LAŠTOVIČKOVÁ – Přírodovědecká fakulta UK
za vystoupení Spin your crystal!
3. místo: ELIŠKA ZGARBOVÁ – Univerzity Palackého v Olomouci
za vystoupení Farmářské trhy: čerstvé lidské střevo
Cena veřejnosti: ANDREA DUCHOŇOVÁ – Fakulta tělesné výchovy a sportu UK

„Výzkum si představujeme jako čas strávený při práci v laboratořích, terénu nebo nad knihami. Jeho nedílnou součástí je však i složka komunikace. Je důležité umět popsat, v čem spočívají naše objevy a co konkrétně naše práce přinese společnosti. Komunikace vědy neznamená jen odbornou debatu, do popředí se stále více dostává složka vědecké popularizace. Právě proto na Univerzitě Karlově podporujeme příležitosti jako je soutěž FameLab, která je pro finalisty a finalistky skvělou šancí naučit se předat srozumitelně své znalosti a vědecké nadšení. Pro laické publikum je soutěž zase možností se něco nového dozvědět a zároveň se pobavit, protože nedílnou součástí soutěže je laskavý a inteligentní humor,“ uvedla rektorka Univerzity Karlovy Milena Králíčková.
Soutěž je určena všem studentkám a studentům nebo vědecky pracujícím, kteří dovršili 21 let. Výstup nesmí přesáhnout 3 minuty a soutěžící smí pracovat pouze s pomůckami, které sami přinesou na jeviště. Audiovizuální technika není povolena. O vítězi rozhoduje porota a také přítomní diváci a divačky v sále. Národní finále má tak podobu interaktivní a zábavné show, letos doplněné o interaktivní warm-up show (houslové kvarteto a rhyme stand-up show bývalých vítězů). Národní finále zároveň proběhne za účasti studentů a studentek středních škol, kteří se přihlásili do programu Juniorská univerzita Karlova.
Akce proběhla pod záštitou britské ambasády za osobní přítomnosti Jeho excelence velvyslance Matta Fielda, rektorky UK Mileny Králíčkové a ministra pro vědu a výzkum Marka Ženíška.

Prague, 19 September 2024 - The national final of the international science popularisation competition FameLab, which brings science to the public through stand-up performances, has decided this year's winners.Nine finalists presented themselves in the Prague Castle Ballroom, giving the audience a three-minute glimpse into the fascinating world of natural sciences.The winner will represent the Czech Republic at the international online final of the competition in November 2024.
Since 2022, Charles University is the license holder for the competition in the Czech Republic, however, the competition is open to all those studying or working in scientific fields in the Czech Republic. This year, the final competition will provide an interesting "duel" of classic exact science topics such as biology and genetics, neuroplasticity, physics and astronomy, chemistry or even medicine. Young scientists from Charles University, the Academy of Sciences, Masaryk University, Palacký University in Olomouc and the University of Chemical Technology have advanced to the national finals.
The jury, consisting of well-known experts and popularizers of scientific disciplines such as Jiří Martínek alias Dr. Vševěd, historian and geographer, "hunter" from the TV NOVA show "On the Hunt", Barbora East, doctor - surgeon, Michael Londesborough, chemist, presenter and popularizer of science, selected the following winners:

"We think of research as time spent working in laboratories, in the field or over books.However, an integral part of it is also the communication component.It is important to be able to describe what our discoveries are and what our work will specifically bring to society.Communicating science is not just about technical debate; the science popularisation component is increasingly coming to the fore.That is why at Charles University we support opportunities such as the FameLab competition, which is a great chance for finalists to learn how to communicate their knowledge and scientific enthusiasm in a clear way.For the general public, the competition is an opportunity to learn something new and have fun at the same time, because an integral part of the competition is kind and intelligent humour, " said the Rector of Charles University Milena Králíčková.
The competition is open to all students or researchers who have reached the age of 21. The performance must not exceed 3 minutes and the contestants may work only with the aids they bring on stage. Audio-visual equipment is not allowed. The winner will be decided by the jury and the audience present in the hall.
The National Finals thus takes the form of an interactive and entertaining show, this year supplemented by an interactive warm-up show (violin quartet and rhyme stand-up show by former winners). The National Finals will also be held with the participation of high school students who have applied for the Junior Charles University programme .
