Praha 20. listopadu 2025 – Univerzitu Karlovu navštívil ve čtvrtek 20. listopadu prezident Albánie Bajram Begaj. V Karolinu se sešel s rektorkou Univerzity Karlovy Milenou Králíčkovou a následně se zúčastnil debaty se studenty.

Při setkání s rektorkou Králíčkovou diskutoval prezident Begaj o možnostech spolupráce v oblasti vzdělávání, a to i ve světle úspěšných kroků Albánie ve vyjednávání o vstupu do Evropské unie. Při setkání probrali také možnosti spolupráce na výzkumných projektech.

„Je mi velkým potěšením a skutečnou ctí přivítat pana prezidenta Albánie zde na Univerzitě Karlově. Jsme opravdu hrdí na to, že jsme jako univerzita partnery albánských univerzit a také se akademicky podílíme na studiích, která jsou relevantní pro váš region, vaši historii a váš jazyk. Ráda bych vás ujistila, že Univerzita Karlova bude v tomto úsilí pokračovat i v budoucnu,“ uvedla rektorka Milena Králíčková pří následném setkání prezidenta Albánie se studenty Univerzity Karlovy.

„Žijeme ve světě, který se rychle mění, kde je velká konkurence a očekávání jsou každodenní. Znalosti ale zůstávají tou největší, nejsilnější věcí, kterou můžeme mít. Možnost studovat v České republice je obrovská příležitost. Zkuste tuto příležitost využít opravdu na maximum, abyste se naučili co nejvíce. Nezapomeňte, odkud pocházíte, to je vaše síla. Otevřít se světu a současně být propojený se svou zemí je neskutečně důležité. Albánie potřebuje lidi, kteří přinášejí nové myšlenky, kteří se nebojí změn,“ doplnil prezident Albánie Bajram Begaj.

Studenti během debaty s prezidentem řešili zejména otázku vstupu Albánie do Evropské Unie a největší překážky, které jsou se vstupem spojeny.

V současné době je na Univerzitě Karlově celkem 21 studujících z Albánie a probíhá aktivní spolupráce s Universiti of Tirana a s Epoka University. Součástí těchto projektů je možnost vycestovat do Albánie, kterou mohou využít nejen studující, ale také zaměstnanci UK. Albánský jazyk se vyučuje na Ústavu etnologie a středoevropských a balkánských studií Filozofické fakulty UK v rámci studijního oboru Jihovýchodoevropská studia (v bakalářském i navazujícím magisterském stupni). Od akademického roku 2025/2026 jsou albánský jazyk a reálie nabízeny také v rámci tzv. mikrocertifikátů Filozofické fakulty UK.

The President of Albania visited Charles University

Prague, November 20, 2025 – The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, visited Charles University on Thursday, November 20. He met with Milena Králíčková, Rector of Charles University, at Karolinum and then took part in a debate with students.

During his meeting with Rector Králíčková, President Begaj discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of education, particularly in light of Albania's successful steps in negotiating its accession to the European Union. They also discussed opportunities for cooperation on research projects.

"It is my great pleasure and a real honor to welcome the President of Albania here at Charles University. We are truly proud that our university is a partner of Albanian universities and that we are also academically involved in studies that are relevant to your region, your history, and your language. I would like to assure you that Charles University will continue these efforts in the future," said Rector Milena Králíčková at the subsequent meeting between the President of Albania and Charles University students.

"We live in a rapidly changing world where competition is fierce and expectations are high every day. However, knowledge remains the greatest and most powerful thing we can have. The opportunity to study in the Czech Republic is a tremendous opportunity. Try to make the most of this opportunity to learn as much as possible. Don't forget where you come from, that is your strength. It is incredibly important to open up to the world and at the same time be connected to your country. Albania needs people who bring new ideas, who are not afraid of change," added Albanian President Bajram Begaj.

During the debate with the president, students mainly discussed Albania's accession to the European Union and the biggest obstacles associated with it.

There are currently 21 students from Albania studying at Charles University, and active cooperation is underway with the University of Tirana and Epoka University. These projects include the opportunity to travel to Albania, which is available not only to students but also to Charles University employees. The Albanian language is taught at the Institute of Ethnology and Central European and Balkan Studies of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University as part of the Southeast European Studies program (at both the bachelor's and master's levels). From the 2025/2026 academic year, Albanian language and culture will also be offered as part of the Faculty of Arts' micro-certificates.
