EUMATBIO-X: European Mathematical Biology Exchange

Number: MA/25/F3/0/019

Flagship: 3 - Digitisation – Modelling - Transformation

Faculty: PřF

Project leader: Brejcha, Jindřich

UMATBIO-X fosters international collaboration and provides an interdisciplinary learning experience in mathematical biology. Building on a seminar series created by Jindřich Brejcha and Karolína Korvasová, the project connects five European universities - Charles University, Heidelberg University, Sorbonne University, the University of Milan and the University of Warsaw - to deliver a semester-long hybrid lecture series featuring leading experts in the field. The programme culminates in an intensive workshop designed to encourage education, discussion and networking.

Students are actively involved in organising events, gaining soft skills in coordination, communication and teamwork while broadening their academic and research perspectives. Hosting visiting professors and creating cross-institutional links supports student exchanges, joint supervision of projects and the development of long-term partnerships.

The project advances mathematical biology in the Czech Republic, where the field is underrepresented, and strengthens ties across 4EU+ institutions. By integrating mathematical and biological sciences, it promotes the free flow of talent and ideas while preparing students for leadership roles in international scientific collaboration. Planned outputs include two hybrid seminar cycles, the September 2025 workshop, strategic planning meetings, and a funding application to ensure the sustainability of this growing academic network.
