Institutional Support for 4EU+ Collaboration

Charles University supports teams collaborating with partner universities within the 4EU+ Alliance through its programme for excellence and opportunities within the 4EU+ Alliance (FoCUs: 4EU+). Funding is provided under three project schemes: 4EU+ Synergy Projects (support for academic and student projects), 4EU+ Bridging Projects (support for student and academic mobility within the 4EU+ Alliance), and Special Support for Strategically Significant 4EU+ Projects (see below).

The above-mentioned project schemes are governed by Rector’s Measure No. 57/2025.

Would you like to learn more about university-level support for 4EU+ projects? Join our information webinar taking place on 3 February 2026 at 16:30. Register here (registration is open until 30 January 2026).

If you have any questions regarding the project schemes, please contact your 4EU+ faculty coordinators or the 4EU+ Local Office at Charles University.

Funded Projects 2022–2025

Special Funding for Strategically Important 4EU+ Projects

Charles University may award special support, outside the standard project schemes, to strategically significant projects that strengthen long-term cooperation within the 4EU+ Alliance and demonstrate substantial innovation potential within the academic environment or on a global scale.

This support is intended for large-scale projects that enhance alliance-wide collaboration in the areas of research, education, or societal impact.

A proposal for special support may be submitted by:

  • a member of the Rector’s Board responsible for 4EU+ matters,

  • a faculty Vice-Dean responsible for 4EU+ affairs, or

  • the university’s representative in one of the 4EU+ Alliance Flagships.

Proposals may be submitted outside regular calls. They must be submitted using the form (see below) and sent via email to 4euplus@cuni.cz. The decision on awarding support is made by the Rector of Charles University.

The maximum amount of funding available is CZK 1,000,000. Project implementation follows the same rules as for 4EU+ Synergy projects.

The principal investigator of a strategically significant project must be an academic staff member of Charles University with a minimum employment of 0.5 FTE.

Each project must align with the 4EU+ Strategy 2025–2035 and correspond to one of the four selected thematic areas (Flagships) of the 4EU+ Alliance:

  1. Urban Health and Demographic Change

  2. Europeanness: Multilingualism, Pluralities, Citizenship

  3. Digitisation – Modelling – Transformation

  4. Environmental Transitions

or must focus on issues related to the European higher education sector and the development of an alliance ecosystem within the European Education Area.
