Medical Insurance
Students from non-EU countries (so-called "third country nationals") are obliged to have comprehensive medical insurance for the entire duration of their stay in Czechia if that exceeds 90 days (so-called "long-term" stay). Such commercial insurance must meet certain legal requirements. To ease the insurance process, visa application, and to offer high-quality, reliable health care coverage, Charles University provides its international students and applicants with two tailored and discounted options to choose from. These are available via our partners Pojišt'ovna VZP, a.s. (PVZP) and Slavia pojišťovna, a.s.. For short-term stays (below the threshold of 90 days), regular travel insurance pre-arranged in the home country will suffice.
Students from EU member countries can register with an auxiliary medical insurance company after their arrival to Czechia with their EHIC card. This allows all the medical expenses to be covered directly by their insurance provider at home. Without this supplementary contract, all their medical expenses must be first paid and only then will be retrospectively reimbursed by their insurance provider at home.
NOTE: Medical travel insurance is not required from citizens of the member states of the International Treaty on Cooperation in the Area of Health and Social Security. The same exception applies to participants of the Erasmus Mundus programme, Fulbright scholarship programme, European Voluntary Service of the EC Youth in Action programme, as well as holders of the GHIC card issued by the United Kingdom.

Foreigners Comprehensive Medical Insurance EXCLUSIVE
The Foreigners Comprehensive Medical Insurance EXCLUSIVE meets all legal requirements and even offers an extended range of services covering emergency care in the entire Schengen area. It is the first commercial medical insurance for foreigners that is completely identical in its scope to public medical insurance in the Czech Republic. The insurance covers even pre-existing conditions, provided they are disclosed at the time of the arrangement (conditions apply).

If the student has a pre-existing medical condition, the discount may be withdrawn and the premium adjusted. In such cases, online enrolment is not possible.

Comprehensive Health Insurance for Foreigners – 131
The Comprehensive Health Insurance for Foreigners – 131 meets all legal requirements and even offers extra coverage for different services. The insurance product covers comprehensive healthcare designed for foreign students at Charles University up to 35 years. If graduates decide to stay in Czech Republic in order to find employment – on a “job seeking visa” - all they need to provide is proof of the age and status as a Charles University graduate.
