Previous mentoring experience:

As a mentor - As part of my job running the Center for Academic Writing, I provide consultations to doctoral students/early career researchers on their writing - for instance I have guided two PhD students through writing their dissertations.

I have also helped researchers prepare presentations about their research (e.g. for ERC grant interviews).

Motivation:

Writing is an inherent part of research but few people have received structured preparation to manage the process effectively. Through the courses "Writing for Publication" and individual consultations, I have been able to provide guidance to many doctoral students and early career researchers. I receive excellent feedback and have been encouraged to enter the mentorship program. I enjoy working with people one-on-one and if my knowledge and skills can be of help to anyone, I will be happy to become a mentor in the program.

Career guidance topics you can discuss with the mentor:

  • Identifying and utilizing one's skill set

  • Asking essential life questions

Research related experience the mentor is ready to share with the mentee:

  • Academic writing and publishing: preparing high-quality scientific publications effectively and efficiently

  • Communicating research to non-specialist audiences, including writing popular science articles

  • Preparing and delivering effective research presentations for academic and non-academic audiences

  • Grant writing: developing grant proposals and providing feedback on applications

  • Innovative teaching methods and approaches to teaching in higher education
