This seminar helps PhD students work effectively with scholarly literature and stay up to date with the latest developments in their research field. Participants will learn how to develop effective search strategies, use citation networks to identify both key and recent publications, assess the relevance and impact of scholarly works, and set up automated alerts for newly published research. The seminar is highly practical and provides valuable skills for preparing literature reviews, writing a doctoral dissertation, and tracking developments in one's research area over the long term.
By the end of this session, PhD candidates will be able to:
Construct effective literature search strategies using bibliometric databases and citation networks.
Evaluate the relevance and influence of scholarly works using metadata and citation-based indicators.
Apply citation techniques to identify foundational and recent research.
Set up automated alerts to monitor new publications in their research area.
Instructor
Daniela Mertlová, MSc, has been working at Clarivate for the past two years, collaborating with academic and research institutions, particularly in supporting the effective use of Web of Science tools and related solutions for research evaluation, publication strategy, and navigation in scholarly literature. In her work, she focuses on the practical application of these tools for researchers, doctoral candidates, and institutional research support. She has experience delivering training sessions, workshops, and consultations for academic audiences in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and abroad.
