On 20th January 2025, the Charleston programme was officially launched in the Charles University’s Hall of Patriots. The programme is co-funded by Horizon Europe under the MSCA COFUND scheme and aims to support the career development of emerging scientific talents at Charles University. The event brought together representatives of the academic community, programme partners, but also others interested in science and sustainability.
The launch event was led by Professor Ladislav Krištoufek, Vice-Rector for Research at Charles University and Scientific Director of the programme. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the Charleston programme and its key pillars, which were introduced by Eva Janů from the Charles University Rectorate's Research Support Office. As part of the first pillar, focused on the career development of postdoctoral researchers, Matouš Glanc from Czexpats in Science, a platform connecting Czech scientists worldwide, shared his insights.

The second pillar of the Charleston programme, dedicated to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, was presented by Nikola Rusová, Sustainable Development Manager at Charles University, and Michal Broža, Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Prague. Their speeches highlighted the alignment of scientific activities with the broader global sustainability agenda. The third pillar, focusing on secondments in non-academic institutions, was introduced by Vojtěch Malina from the University Centre for Knowledge and Technology Transfer (CPPT).
