Second Charleston Call Attracts 96 Applications

2 June 2026

Following the deadline on 1 June, the second call of the Charleston programme (MSCA COFUND) has officially concluded. The programme supports outstanding postdoctoral researchers in developing innovative projects that address sustainability-related challenges. In addition to advancing their research, fellows benefit from structured career development opportunities and intersectoral experience through secondments with non-academic partners.

A total of 96 postdoctoral researchers submitted proposals in this call, planning to carry out their projects across 13 faculties and institutes of Charles University. Compared to the first call, the number of applications has doubled, demonstrating growing interest in the programme and confirming its attractiveness for early-career researchers. The increase also reflects the continued relevance of research addressing sustainability challenges and societal impact, combined with opportunities for professional development and intersectoral collaboration.

Among the applicants, 49 identified as male, 46 as female, and 1 preferred not to specify their gender, indicating a well-balanced applicant pool.

In this call, up to 12 projects will be selected for funding through a multi-stage evaluation process.
