Research funding and education policies in the USA are facing growing political pressures, undermining the integrity of academic research. In light of the nearly threefold increase in inquiries coming from the United States since November 2024, Charles University stands ready to offer a second home for students and scholars dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge without borders.
Charles University’s International Advisory Board (IAB), comprising global academic leaders and policy experts, met this week for its annual review. The board provided feedback and discussed CU's progress, challenges, and strategic direction for the future.
In an era marked by rising geopolitical tension and increasing challenges to democratic norms, Charles University hosted a conference on 13 May to reflect on the legacy of the late Karel Schwarzenberg. The legacy of the popular leader - who was a champion of human rights - was remembered by guests.
At the beginning of May, a six-member delegation from the Ukrainian Dnipropetrovsk region visited Charles University. The discussions held between the foreign partners and Charles University Rector Milena Králíčková, along with representatives from the university's Department of International Relations, focused on the development of cooperation within international projects.
“With deep sorrow, we received the news of the tragic attack that occurred on May 7th, 2025, on the campus of the University of Warsaw. In this difficult time, I would like to express, on behalf of the entire academic community of Charles University, our sincere condolences to the family of the victim, and our support for all those who have been injured or affected,” says the Rector of Charles University Milena Králíčková.
During his full programme in the Czech Republic, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy found time to visit Charles University. On site, he took part in an important discussion with students, moderated by the rector of Charles University, Milena Králíčková. A range of topics, including the opportunities for graduates to contribute to Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, was discussed.
Studentská Hybernská is once again offering student associations, projects and initiatives offices in the centre of Prague from August 2025 to July 2026, i.e. for a year (a period of two semesters). These are shared offices in the cultural and academic ecosystem of the Kampus Hybernská, a joint project of Charles University and the Prague City Hall.

Earlier this month, a highly anticipated 4EU+ seminar entitled Leading the Way: Shaping the Future of a Transnational European University in a Changing Global Landscape was held at the University of Warsaw. On Monday 7 April, Charles University celebrated the 677th anniversary of its foundation. On this occasion, the Miloslav Petrusek Prize for representation and promotion and the Bedřich Hrozný Prize for creative achievement were traditionally awarded.
Interesting scientific topics, excellent study or sporting results, as well as community activities and helping others, were all recognised by the Rector of Charles University Milena Králíčková, who presented prestigious awards to students from Charles University for their extraordinary activities.
Blended intensive programmes (BIPs) are one of the new Erasmus+ features that were introduced in 2021. As the title suggests, the core of the opportunity lies in the combination of virtual and physical mobility, enabling students and staff to develop new educational activities including digital skills improvement.
Experts from the Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies have shared insights and the results of a key study on post-trauma aid. Cooperation between CU and NKVTS was initiated following the tragic events of 21 December 2023.
