Writing for effective communication is often not explicitly taught in universities, yet students and researchers are expected to produce compelling academic texts. This workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to research writing and the writing process, using the abstract as a focal point to explore effective writing and writing strategies.
By analysing an abstract from a reviewer’s perspective, participants will learn to apply critical reading and evaluation tools, enhancing their reader awareness. The workshop will also address intercultural differences in writing, which can significantly impact how research is conveyed. Along with strategies for crafting strong and impactful abstracts, participants will learn how to create compelling titles.
Lecturer
Martin Sedláček is an academic writing instructor and a PhD candidate in Cognitive Linguistics at Charles University, where he conducts his research on how different languages express motion. He holds an MA in English and American Studies and a BA in Japanese Studies. In his workshops and classes, he focuses primarily on developing reader awareness. In other words, he helps writers create texts that are both logically sound and engaging for their audience.
