Leading Czech Egyptologist and archaeologist Miroslav Bárta has been confirmed by the Academic Senate of Charles University as the next Vice-Rector for Public Affairs; the Senate backed Professor Bárta’s naming on Friday; the news was confirmed for the Czech News Agency by university spokesperson Václav Hájek. Professor Bárta received backing from 40 members of the Academic Senate; three members voted against and two abstained.
The professor, who heads the respected Czech Institute of Egyptology, will be officially named to the post on Monday, May 20, by Rector Tomáš Zima.
Earlier, the post of Vice-Rector for Public Affairs was held by historian Martin Kovář who stepped down in late 2018 after facing allegations of plagiarism in his work.
