Previous mentoring experience:

Informally, advising a number of younger colleagues both from the Czech Republic and abroad. I have founded an interest group - part of ICON-S (an international learned society on public law), which discusses pros and cons of international and combined careers.

Motivation:

I have been extremely lucky to meet the right people at the right moment - be it before I left legal practice and went to do a PhD (DPhil) in Oxford, or later, at different points of my career. I just want to give back and do the same for people who try to enter academia now, when everything is so much more difficult for them. And as a "researcher-expat" I especially want to advise colleagues from here, my home country.

Career guidance topics you can discuss with the mentor:

  • Asking essential life questions

  • Differences between academic and non-academic careers

  • Navigating the job market, employment opportunities

Research related experience the mentor is ready to share with the mentee:

  • Preparation of scientific publications - how to do it correctly, efficiently, and with quality

  • Grant writing process, grant application consultation

  • Management of science and research in an academic institution

  • Consultation on preparation for a job interview;Networking - introducing people in the field

  • Participating in events together with a mentee (conferences, symposia, fairs, etc.)

  • Utilizing the potential of international internships, conferences, etc.

  • Path to an academic position abroad

  • Project management

  • Navigating the job market in the sector I operate in
