The selection procedure is based on established criteria, which also serve as key guidance for applicants. These criteria outline what is emphasised in the assessment and which documents must be submitted. It is therefore essential to study them carefully.
1) Faculdade de filosofia, letras e ciencias humanas (FFLCH USP)
Participating faculties of CU: Faculty of Arts (FF), Faculty of Humanities (FHS), Faculty of Social Sciences (FSV), Faculty of Science (PřF)
Number of places: 4 semester places or 2 full academic-year places
Conditions:
Exchange students are exempt from tuition fees; all other living and travel expenses must be covered by the students themselves.
Teaching is conducted in Portuguese. Courses taught in English are offered only by the Department of English Language and Literature. Nevertheless, knowledge of Portuguese is essential for everyday life outside the university. Master’s-level students may not enrol in Bachelor’s-level courses (they may, however, attend them without receiving credits).

2) Instituto de Matemática e Estatística (IME USP)
Participating faculties of CU: Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (MFF)
Number of places: 4 semester places or 2 full academic-year places
Conditions: Exchange students are exempt from tuition fees; all other living and travel expenses must be covered by the students themselves.

IME recommends that students who choose only courses taught in English (the offer of which is limited) have at least A1/A2 level Portuguese for basic communication outside the classroom. For courses taught in Portuguese, a minimum level of B1 Portuguese is recommended. No language certificate is required.

Teaching is conducted exclusively in Portuguese; a minimum language level of B1 is required.
